The existing house was built on 2 parcels. There was no vertical circulation between the two levels. To enter the house, the person exits the garage to the outside, then ascends the exterior stairs to the front door. The need for internal vertical circulation and an elevator aspired the design. The main entry has been relocated to the first floor, eliminating exterior stairs. A secondary entry has been added from the garage. The unifying element between the first and second floors incorporates an internal stair and elevator that become sculptural elements and engage the existing house. Materials interpenetrate, diminishing boundaries and allowing transparency to blur interior and exterior spaces. The design intent is to accentuate the view towards the Pacific Ocean.
