This project is an adaptive reuse of the “Orange Daily News” building, constructed in the 1920’s, utilized as office space today. As one progresses through the alley, an upward glimpse towards an adjacent building reveals evidence of the past method of construction, a wooden lath substrate. The custom built slat wall in the reception area incorporates this vocabulary, integrating matchbox cars, and tonka toys from the occupant’s past. We build today’s achievements upon yesterday’s foundation.

The existing corrugated metal walls inspired the corrugated fiberglass sliding doors in the conference area. The light sconce is a custom design by the occupant. Past events can impose the creation of a new component of life. History should be a modern retelling; timeless qualities promote a productive environment in which to work and play. This project foreshadows Secoy’s icehouse project…
